Yo, I iz on a camel.

Sacha has been spotted filming for new film ‘The Dictator’ in the streets of New York City.  Pictures were taken of Sacha in his full Dictator gear riding a camel through the streets with a suitably large entourage.

There are also pictures of  Sacha, in more modest dress being tackled by a waiter after he steal food from an unsuspecting diner at a restaurant.

The pictures do not give much away in terms of the plot, but it can be assumed the camel photos are of the Dictator before he meets his future love – the peasant girl whilst the photos of Sacha stealing food are when the Dictator hits harder times once his new love has reformed his dictatorial ways.

Some further plot details have also come to light, and we learn that The Dictator heads to the U.S. for a meeting at the United Nations and finds that his number two has replaced him with an unsuspecting sheepherder lookalike.

As the dictator wanders the city, he meets the owner of an organic food store who turns around his dictatorial thinking, and a romance blossoms between them.

Yo – check this out. The first official pictures have emerged of Sacha Baron Cohen as ‘The Dictator’ where he plays the role of an Iraqi leader who falls in love with a peasant girl (more info here), based on a novel written by Suddam Hussein.

Although the beard, afro(?) and sunglasses look like something Ali G would wear rather than an Iraqi leader, Sacha will no doubt do the role justice.

Sacha drums up more controversy in latest role

Sacha Baron Cohen is to star in a film of Zabibah and the King, a romantic novel written by Iraqi dictator. The novel tells a tale of a wise and good Iraqi leader who falls in love with a humble peasant girl. Re-titled The Dictator, Cohen will be transforming the story from a romantic love story into a political comedy.

The Guardian reports that Zabibah and the King was published anonymously in 2000, complete with a strap-line that promised royalties would go “to the poor, the orphans, the miserable, the needy”. It is widely accepted within Iraq that the book was authored by Saddam, although the CIA later concluded that it was probably produced by ghost-writers, acting under direct instruction from the Iraqi leader. The book charts the chaste love affair between a medieval monarch and the soulful Zabibah, who lives unhappily with her abusive husband. But what appears, at first glance, to be a sweet, simple folk tale actually contains pools of hidden meaning. It was intended to be read as an allegory for Iraq in the years following the first Gulf war, with the king representing Saddam, Zabibah embodying the Iraqi people and her husband standing in for the cruel and evil US forces.

The Dictator begins filming this year with a scheduled release date of May 11 2012 and will b directed by Larry Charles.

Sacha Baron Cohen will play Freddie Mercury

May revealed that the first draft of the Freddy Mercury script has been handed in by Peter Morgan and revealed that star Sacha Baron Cohen cannot wait to get started on the project…

“Work is now fully under way for the much-vaunted feature film on the life of Freddie. Peter Morgan has delivered a first draft of the movie, which everyone is very excited about, and Sacha Baron Cohen is chomping at the bit to get into the role, in a way which certainly would delight Freddie! The whole team [are] now working on preparing for a shoot later this year, and a release in the late autumn of 2012.”

The Freddy Mercury biopic will chart the rise to fame of the Queen frontman, not his ill-fated battle with AIDS.

José Luis Torrente

The Guardian has reported that Sacha Baron Cohen could play a rogue cop – José Luis Torrente in Seinfeld writers’ update of Spanish action-comedy ‘The Torrente film series’.

The Torrente film series, created by comic Santiago Segura, follows the fortunes of a racist, misogynist former police officer who illicitly patrols the neighbourhood in search of troublemakers.

The US version has been scripted by Seinfeld writers Alec Berg, Jeff Schaffer and David Mandel. The trio are also behind Baron Cohen’s next project The Dictator, which shoots early next year. Directed by Larry Charles, The Dictator charts the parallel tales of a goat herd and a deposed South American despot, who both find themselves adrift in the US.

Having scored in the US with his Borat and Brüno, 39-year-old Baron Cohen appears to have his pick of film projects. He has a supporting role in Martin Scorsese’s forthcoming Paris-set fantasy Hugo Cabret and is due to star as Queen frontman Freddie Mercury in a biopic written by Peter Morgan.

I have come across some early Ali G and Borat material which was found by my main man Winston O’boogie on Twitter.

Sexy time explosion?

It has been reported that Erkin Rakishev, a film director in Kazakhstan has shot a sequel to Borat Cultural Learnings Of America For Make Benefit Glorious Nation Of Kazakhstan. Kazakh national Rakishev did not see the funny side of the original Borat film, and so has decided to film a sequel named ‘My Brother, Borat’ to counter balance the country’s image created by Cohen’s character.

The plot
The film trails an American journalist called John, who after watching the original Borat movie, decides to visit Kazakhstan. He goes in search of the character’s fictional home village Kusek, but is shocked to find a modern and developed city. John recalls in the movie that Borat mentioned his mentally ill brother Bilo,” says Rakishev. He finds Bilo in a psychiatric ward along with Osama Bin Laden and George Bush. John is then taken on a tour around Kazakhstan by Bilo to see what the country is really like.

The sequel appears to have two things in common with the original Borat move, one being the unimportance of the plot, and second the desire to cause offence. In one scene Bilo gets raped by a donkey and in another an old woman is seen beating the two main characters with a stick. But Rakishev denies such scenes will cause offence and said “If it was Borat’s brother who raped the donkey then perhaps it would be considered outrageous, but it is the other way round,” he argues.
